#HackTheConstitution: three way speed hack

When: 9 February 2017 from 6:00 p.m.

Where: JoziHub Main EVENT SPACE

Want to help build an awesome engine for turning legal documents into storytelling machines? And help journalists and activists search for relevant information at the same time? Then you want to get involved with Hacks/Hackers Johannesburg's #HackTheConstitution project. It's awesome and you can read all about it here

Our next meetup is on Thursday 9th February, and we'll be following on from last week's excellent session (see meetups passim) on the technical aspects of putting laws online.

Our plan is to work in three groups to continue with aspects of the project already starterd. It doesn't matter if you haven't been to a #HackTheConstitution meetup before or not, and we'll be hosting a Google Hangout if you want to join us remotely too.

Firstly, a technical team will continue to explore annotate.js and start building an engine for annotating the Constituion based on our discussions with Greg Kempe.

Second, we need volunteers to proof read and correct the markup language we're using for the text of the Constitution itself (we're using the Indigo platform for this).

And finally we'll be putting the finishing touches to our design plans for the first go at a functional look and feel for the alpha version of the app.

If all that sounds intimidating, don't worry. What you can expect is a bunch of journalists, programmers and data nerds building something great and hopefully having some fun and learning a bit on the way.

See you on Thursday.
